Loneliness of Difference

Loneliness is a long road, because we often lose our motivation to walk it. Outside of our own unique qualities, being autistic sets us apart from the rest in a way that is sometimes invisible. This leads to bullying, comparison of self to others, and oftentimes a defensive self-preservation. When I open my eyes and realize how isolated I feel or have become, I honestly take to online forums for companionship. These can be autism forums, or any forum that relates to a personality trait, interest, or orientation. Still, at some point, it takes humility to escape loneliness. Sometimes we may find friendships in the people we think could never be like us.
