High-Functioning

“What is high-functioning autism?” “High-functioning” is not a diagnosis. If looked up online, there are a variety of interpretations of high-functioning autism. Some say it describes people on the spectrum with an IQ higher than 70, or people on the spectrum who can still speak, read, and perform basic life skills. Others say it’s just the new term for Asperger’s Syndrome, which is now supposed to be described simply as a part of autism spectrum disorder.
