Dissociation: An Unhealthy Strategy

Floating through life. As a result of my masking, sensory discomfort, and physical pain, I went through years of struggling with dissociation from myself and my surroundings. I struggled to grasp what was real. In the end, I had to make the choice to stop using dissociation as an unhealthy coping strategy. Grounding myself in the difficult reality of my life, I came to appreciate my day-to-day and its hardships in order to finally enjoy the beauty of my life as an autistic person.
