New Year’s Getaway

New Year’s Eve (NYE) often comes with expectations that can completely derail an autistic individual’s day. Hello loud noises, crowds, chatter, blasting music, and alcohol. I myself have struggled through meltdowns on at least two NYEs in the last six years. But here’s an idea! Beat the NYE chaos with the antithesis of a party. Plan a New Year’s getaway.

I’ve done this once before. Instead of forcing myself into a masking state and starting my year trying to keep it together, I simply made arrangements to take a quiet vacation. This doesn’t have to be anything flashy. A forest cabin, a hotel in a distant suburb, an AirBnB in a small town. Take a loved one or just go alone. Think of it as a taking a holiday for yourself!
