Fatigued that’s OK

Lately I’ve learned that I have been getting fatigued by positive interactions. Even though I’m having a good time, maybe even a great time, I’m so burnt out by the extreme positive experience that I’m left drained. My only way to recover is a nap.
The point is, even when we have amazing days surrounded by supportive people and environments, autistic people are still autistic people. Our needs are still different from the “typical.” Our clocks run on a different schedule; our energy ebbs and flows autistically. Acknowledging and accepting this divergence from the “norm,” even on the good days, enables us to truly accept ourselves. I’m an autistic person on my bad days. I’m autistic person on my good days. I’m always an autistic person. And that’s okay.
